Itinerary

Day 1: Luxor East Bank Tour

Your Egyptologist guide will collect you in the morning, either from your hotel or directly from Luxor International Airport, for a captivating exploration of the ancient temples of Thebes on the East Bank. Your first stop will be the awe-inspiring Karnak Temple, the largest ancient temple dedicated to the Theban triad: Amun, Mut, and their son Khonsu. This magnificent complex was once connected to Luxor Temple via a grand avenue of sphinxes, used during the Opet Festival, a procession where statues of the Theban triad were taken from Karnak Temple to Luxor Temple through the Avenue of Sphinxes, to symbolize the god Amun-Ra meeting Amun-Min, his form at Luxor Temple.

Next, you'll journey to Luxor Temple, where the new sphinx road leads to the immense pylon of Ramses II, his monumental colossi, and the unique obelisk. The other obelisk, you'll learn, was gifted to France by the viceroy Mehmet Ali. This temple, once a year during the Nile's flood season, welcomed the statues of the Theban triads for the Beautiful Feast of Opet. You'll also discover a Roman chapel and a mosque, perched atop ancient temple columns, adding a fascinating layer to this historic site.

Day 2: Luxor West Bank Tour

In the morning, your guide will escort you to the West Bank of Luxor, beginning the second phase of your day. You'll start with a visit to the Valley of the Kings, a symbol of pharaohs' grandeur. This valley, chosen by the pharaohs as their royal necropolis after the pyramids of Lower Egypt were plundered, houses 63 tombs carved into the mountain's rock. The most famous, of course, is the tomb of the young king Tutankhamun.

Venture inside a royal tomb and marvel at the colorful scenes painted on the walls, offering a window into ancient Egyptian beliefs and funerary rites. Here you'll understand that preparing for death was a pharaoh's primary concern, making the tomb the most important achievement of their reign.

Your exploration continues at the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut. As you approach the site, the impressive cliff will undoubtedly capture your attention. But the true wonder lies at the foot of this natural masterpiece: Hatshepsut Temple. The temple's external architecture blends seamlessly with the refined cliff, appearing as if sculpted from the rock itself.

Your final stop on the West Bank is the Colossi of Memnon, towering giants with a proud gaze fixed upon the Nile. These colossal statues once guarded Amenhotep's memorial temple. Today, the area is a vast archaeological site, still guarded by these majestic figures, marking the end of our two-day tour in Luxor.
