Day 4: The highlights of Luxor
Start at 8:00 AM and cross to the West Bank, where the Valley of the Kings offers a glimpse into the elaborate preparations made for pharaohs’ journeys into the afterlife. Enter the tombs available with your ticket and look closely at the painted scenes and inscriptions preserved within them. Your guide will help explain the beliefs behind these underground chambers and the rulers who chose them as their final resting places.
Continue to the Temple of Hatshepsut, a striking monument built into the natural landscape beneath the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari. Its terraces and broad lines tell the story of a ruler whose reign left a lasting mark on Egypt. Before leaving the West Bank, stop at the Colossi of Memnon, two monumental statues that have become enduring landmarks of the Theban plain.
Pause for lunch at your own expense before heading to the East Bank. At Karnak, the scale of the ancient religious complex becomes clear as you move through its immense courtyards and forest of stone columns. Generations of rulers contributed to this sacred landscape, leaving behind a record of Egypt’s changing dynasties and beliefs. Finish at Luxor Temple, where ancient architecture shares the city with cafés, streets, and everyday life. After a full day on both banks, return to your hotel.
