Day 8: Luxor East bank

Embark on a captivating journey through Luxor's eastern side, starting with a picturesque ride in a horse-drawn carriage. Your first stop will be the awe-inspiring Karnak Temple, Egypt's largest ancient temple complex.

Dedicated to the Theban triad of Amun, Mut, and their son Khonsu, Karnak was once connected to Luxor Temple by a grand avenue of sphinxes. Over two millennia, roughly 30 pharaohs contributed to the temple's construction, resulting in its remarkable size, intricate details, and diverse architectural styles.

As the sun begins its descent, you'll be treated to a breathtaking finale at Luxor Temple, where the golden light of the setting sun illuminates the splendor of its ancient architecture. Enter the site through the imposing pylon of Ramses II, marveling at his colossal statues and the towering obelisk.

This temple held immense significance for the ancient Egyptians. Every year, the Feast of Opet was celebrated here, a ceremony symbolizing the union of Mut and Amun and the rebirth of their son. This ritual was believed to revitalize the pharaoh's power over all of Egypt. Beyond its ancient grandeur, Luxor Temple also boasts a Roman chapel and a mosque, nestled atop the temple's ancient columns, adding to its unique character.

The temple's architecture blends seamlessly with the refined cliff, appearing as though it were sculpted directly from the rock itself.

Inside, you'll encounter many statues and engravings with defaced faces. Your knowledgeable guide will shed light on the compelling historical events behind this.
